In 1971, the Twin Cities based 109th converted from C-97s to the turbo-prop powered C-130A and, in 1981, got C-130Es which they still fly today. The 109th mission is carrying passengers and cargo, and flying aeromedical evacuation flights. Many of the 109th members served in this capacity in Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
