The 179th Figher-Interceptor Squadron flew air defense missions in the F-102s for more than five years from 1967 to 1972. The "Deuce" was armed with AIM-4 missiles and 2.75" rockets.
Our F-102 came to us from New York, where it was a "Gate-Guard" on static display atop a 20 foot post. Acid-rain had destroyed the skin of the aircraft by the time we acquired it, leading to one of our longest and most complex restorations. Much of the magnesium skin on our aircraft had to be replaced. We also had to acquire and install new landing gear and all of the cockpit items. After over five years of work, the 102's debut at this year's season opener was a proud moment for us.
